Kristin + Derrek
May 27, 2017
I remember when Heather and I were on our way to our engagement session (all the way back in 2011). We were headed to an apple orchard that our photographer suggested, just outside of Grand Rapids, MI. Feeling the pressure to make our session great, Heather was a bit stressed. So on the way, we stopped and bought a couple adult beverages. I was driving, so Heather chugged one to help loosen up. We ended up having a blast! The photos were fun, spontaneous, and genuine. Now I don't think Kristin and Derrek had any adult beverages prior to our 10 am session, but they were relaxed and ready to have a good time. By the second or third photo, they were laughing and having fun with one another. These are some of my favorite shots. One of the biggest challenges as a photographer is to capture peoples real personalities. Whether that be with a couple on their wedding day, a 1 year old baby, or a family, it can be tricky to get people to act in front of the camera the same way they would act at home in their kitchen (experience shows it's where some of the best dance parties go down). Take a look at the images below and tell me if Kristin and Derrek look like they are having fun ;) Try not to overthink your session. The best thing you can do is just be YOU.
