Monument Valley, UT

Even though we want things to go exactly as we plan them, some of the best moments in life are when things veer off course. 3 hours off course to be precise. The very first image in the gallery is of my wife gazing into an enormous canyon around Lake Powell. At this moment, we had (unknowingly) took a 60 mile detour away from our destination of Monument Valley. Not just any 60 mile detour either... 60 miles of dirt roads. Roads that if you didn't know better, would not appear to be roads. In hindsight, it was painfully obvious that we weren't on track, but at that moment we were so enamored with our surroundings that we didn't notice. It took us getting all the way to the southern end of Lake Powell where we encountered some Navajo that didn't speak a word of English to realize that we had taken a wrong turn. It remains one of the best moments of the trip.
